On Monday, May 25th at 10:00 a.m., the American Legion Post 5 Kingfisher, OK held its annual Memorial Day Service at the Kingfisher Cemetery to honor the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
Throughout the program, The Vocal Sounds of Oklahoma, an award-winning men’s a cappella chorus, performed patriotic songs. Guest speaker CW5 James Kale, a US Army Veteran, delivered the Memorial Day address, sharing the history of the American Legion and Post #5. He also spoke about the two World War I soldiers for whom the post is named, Keith Lowry and Henry Ellison, both of whom died in the line of duty.
Mark Kirchner, accompanied by Roxie Patterson, presented memorial wreaths that were placed at the base of the symbolic statue honoring those who gave all for our nation.
Members of the American Legion then paid tribute with the Salute to the Dead, performed by the Post #5 Firing Squad under the command of Roger Freels. Taps was played by Cooper Endres, an Okarche High School student.
Post Commander Mark Kirchner concluded the ceremony with closing remarks, bringing the Memorial Day program to a respectful close.
