When the world slowed to a standstill in 2020, Justin Steckman was searching for something that gave his days purpose when so much felt paused. Woodworking stepped in first, long evenings in the shop, shaping oversized live-edge tables from raw slabs, letting the process steady his mind and restore his spirit. Around that same time, he also answered the call to serve as a firefighter, spending his life next to people he trusts with his safety, heartbeat, and situations most hope to never see.
While building tables, Justin realized something that didn’t sit right. He was paying premium prices for massive wood slabs, while tree companies were hauling beautiful, towering trunks to the dump, chipping them, burning them, or grinding them into debris piles. Wood with decades of life, gone in a moment of smoke. Instead of seeing fallen trees as the end of the line, Justin began seeing them as the start of one, imagining the possibility of giving them a second chapter.
Piece by piece and plan by plan, Axe & Honor Tree Co. came to life, named from two worlds that shaped him, the axe symbolizing fire and forestry alike, and honor standing strong as a nod to military service, country, duty, and legacy. With research, heart, and support from his wife, the vision launched, giving trees a renewed story beyond being discarded.
Axe & Honor now serves Hennessey and communities across Oklahoma with tree removal, trimming, stump grinding, forestry mulching, land clearing, brush hogging, dirt work, and even driveway or parking lot debris clearing during snow or ice events. Each job begins with equipment checks and safety walks, followed by flexible planning, because no two trees or jobs are ever the same. In storm or emergency situations, past customers are prioritized first, because loyalty isn’t just appreciated; they return it.
But what truly makes Axe & Honor stand apart isn’t just the work, it’s the transformation. They can remove a tree, mill it on-site, and turn it into something meaningful again. A trunk that once shaded a home could now be the table around which the family gathers. Potential doesn’t burn here, it’s rebuilt.
Free estimates, advice gladly shared, hands always busy, heart always invested, and roots always in service, Axe & Honor Tree Co. proves the best stories aren’t just about taking something down, but about building something back up, stronger than before.
