Early Saturday morning on March 23rd over 160 athletes, spectators, and supporters, from near and far braved the cold morning for the Blazin’ Past Burns 5k and 1-mile run. Hunter Wittrock, along with many other passionate individuals have worked hard to achieve their goal to raise enough money for sidewalks at Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp. They successfully raised over $23,000 to help in making that become a reality.
Oklahoma Firefighters Burn Camp is a summer camp that provides free one-on-one counseling for children 6-16 that have suffered major burn or disfiguring injuries at any point in their lives requiring hospitalization. Burn Camp offers a chance for child burn survivors to make new and life-long friends with other burn survivors, in a setting of love, support, and unconditional acceptance. Adult burn survivors donate their time to show these children that their scars do not limit their ability to succeed in life and to help others. The Blazin’ Past Burns team is beyond grateful for Kingfisher’s generosity, kindness and care towards this amazing camp that so many people are passionate about. The amount of work that goes into organizing a race is a big job from start to finish. We cannot thank you enough for the overwhelming support from the community, the donations, sponsors, volunteers, and to the race participants, the success of the March 23rd race is purely because of your graciousness. We look forward to seeing you at the starting line next year! – Hunter Wittrock and the Blazin’ Past Burns Crew. Photos – AAK Amy Smith
