The auction business isn’t what it used to be—and Chris Cameron of Lippard Real Estate & Auctions knows it firsthand. In a recent webshow, Cameron shared his journey from the insurance industry to becoming a full-time auctioneer and real estate professional, as well as his perspective on how the industry has evolved.
Cameron grew up attending auctions with his father, captivated by the fast-talking energy and excitement of the bidding floor. With encouragement from mentor Troy Lippard, he enrolled at the Missouri Auction School, earning both his auctioneer credentials and his real estate license.
Looking back on the past decade, Cameron pointed to one of the most significant changes: the move from live, outdoor events to online platforms. “We used to set up tents, drag out tables, and fight the weather,” he said. “Now, tens of thousands of people can log in and watch an auction from anywhere.” The COVID-19 pandemic sped up this transition, turning auctions into a year-round, nonstop operation, supported by dedicated teams in Enid.
Cameron also tackled one of the biggest misconceptions about auctions—that they’re just “fire sales.” In reality, he explained, auctions can generate competitive excitement that pushes prices beyond what traditional listings achieve. For buyers, his advice is straightforward: “Watch an auction first before jumping in, so you understand the rhythm and pace.”
He credits Lippard Real Estate & Auction’s reputation for success to the team’s adaptability, teamwork, and focus on customer service.
