At the City Commissioners Meeting on Monday, November 13th the Commissioners approved a contract with Oklahoma Department of Commerce grant project to extend the airport runway for $2,662,505.00. This grant will allow the runway at the airport to be extended 1200 feet making it a total of 4000 feet. A longer runway will allow for bigger aircrafts to land at the airport. This project will be completely paid for by the grant.
Bill Reitz of the Kingfisher Airport Authority explained that this will eliminate pilots and passengers with larger aircraft that are currently forced to land at other airports and drive to Kingfisher. The cost of this project is based upon FAA regulations and construction standards that will be able to handle the weight of large aircraft.
