Fire crews spent several hours this morning, February 25, battling a large grass fire near the intersection of 850 Road and Redding Road in Kingfisher County after a controlled burn got out of hand.
Big 4 Firefighters responded to the scene and were assisted by crews from Cashion, Okarche, Piedmont, and Deer Creek. The fire spread quickly due to dry vegetation, warm temperatures, and breezy conditions.
Officials say the blaze originated from a planned controlled burn that escaped containment amid extreme fire conditions. While there are currently no formal burn bans or Red Flag warnings in place, authorities emphasize that the risk of wildfire remains very high.
According to the National Weather Service, the area is expected to be under a near-critical fire risk on Friday, with continued warm and windy weather increasing the potential for rapid fire spread.
Kingfisher County Emergency Management is urging residents to avoid conducting controlled burns until conditions improve. Even small fires can quickly become dangerous under the current weather pattern.
No injuries have been reported, and crews are now wrapping up operations at the scene.
