David Joe Glover went to be with Jesus on September 14, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born on August 6, 1959, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Wilma and Wendel (Joe) Glover. David graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he played basketball and met the love of his life, Cyndy, his wife of 44 years.
David began his 22-year coaching career in Woodward, later coaching in Okeene and Fairview. His teams earned numerous trophies, including two State Runner-Up titles. One of those honors came during the final 6-on-6 Girls State Championship, where David led the Fairview Lady Jackets to a silver ball finish. David was also recognized for his coaching career by being inducted into the OGBCA Hall of Fame in 2021. After earning his Master’s degree in School Administration from Southern Nazarene University, David transitioned from coaching to leadership roles, serving as a principal and superintendent in Newkirk, Bethel, and Okarche. He retired from Okarche in 2013 and went on to serve as Assistant Director for the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA), overseeing cross-country, basketball (B-4A), tennis, and golf. In 2022, he returned to his passion for education administration as the Superintendent of Schools in Kingfisher, marking the culmination of his remarkable 35-year career in public education.
An avid golfer and a devoted advocate for public education and high school sports, David left a lasting impact on students, teachers, and communities across Oklahoma. His dedication was unwavering—he rarely missed a school event or game, and his “first lady” was always by his side. Known for giving out affectionate nicknames, Coach Glover made a mark wherever he went. He proudly followed his youngest daughter’s basketball career, offering guidance as she followed in his coaching footsteps. One of his most cherished moments was handing her the gold ball in 2016 after she led her own team to victory. However, David’s greatest joy was being “Pops” to his five grandchildren. Whether cheering at soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball games or FaceTiming his grandson in Texas, he was their biggest fan. Known for his playful spirit, he never said “no” and was always the fun one—his famous Daffy Duck and Yogi Bear impressions are legendary among his grandkids, and no OSU football game will go by without them thinking of him. David and Cyndy attended First Baptist Church in Kingfisher, where they led a small group. David’s love for Jesus was evident in how he loved others—with his whole heart.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Cyndy; his oldest daughter, Kylee Martin, her husband David, and their son Sam of Bellville, Texas; and his youngest daughter, Kinzie Didier, her husband Michael, and their children Isaac, Gannon, Grace, and Aleigh of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his mother, Wilma Goodwin; his siblings, Debbie Harrington (Frank), Dan Glover (Jenese), and Derald Glover (Liz), father and mother-in-law, Larry and Nelda Brady, brother in law Scott Brady (Toni) and sister in law Michelle Heger (Darin) as well as numerous nieces and nephews he loved so much. He is preceded in death by his father, Wendel (Joe) Glover, his brother Blaine Glover, and his stepfather Bill Goodwin.
A memorial service to honor the life of David J. Glover will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Kingfisher High School Gymnasium. A live streaming of the services can be found at kingfishersports.tv
