On Sunday, December 15th the Kingfisher Lions Club kept the gates at Kingfisher Winter Nights. Angie Kennedy and I are members. We had already dressed as the Grinch and Max for the Littles at Geen Gilmour Elementary School and the library that week. We decided what’s one more gig!
This time Angie was the Grinch and I was Max so I bought a tan jacket with pockets which I will come back to! We chose to hold down the exit of the lights. As Chris Cameron handed me the donation box and the counter he mentioned to me to ask where the cars traveled from and chit-chat how they heard about the lights. He knew I could chit-chat! Angie aka Grinch was in charge of handing candy canes, chit-chatting as well, and yelling stink stank stunk at the train when it circled by. We had learned the littles really liked the Grinch or really hated him! The one adult who stopped us in our tracks told us if we would get in his car he would tell us about Jesus. I guess I had a look of feeling judged on my face when my friend the Grinch pipes up telling the gentleman her heart had grown three times its normal size and offered him a candy cane! This prompted me to rewatch the Grinch’s movie!
Overall our evening allowed us to chit chat with people from all over the state 167 cars in all. One was from Texas. Everyone loved the lights and expressed their appreciation for all the hard work. Back to the pocket jacket I wore knowing the Grinch costume had none. As we were leaving our vehicles at the beginning of the evening I took Angie’s keys and cellphone. Put hers in one pocket and mine in the other. Our time was coming to an end Angie asked for her keys! My heart sank when I could only find my keys! We knew the keys had to be within the perimeter we had walked during the evening!
After an hour of looking and looking it was determined to come back in daylight. I left still backtracking my steps and trying to vision my last sight of those keys! Then Christmas Miracle…. I had just sat down on my couch when my phone rang. Angie had found her keys in the one area we had not searched. The positive side to this story is how everyone stayed and helped search on a Sunday night. I also asked Santa to bring Angie a glow-in-the-dark keychain especially if I have to hold on to them. I want to wish all the readers a Very Merry Christmas!
This retirement gig has allowed me the opportunity to chit-chat with some amazing people! I have got to experience them sharing their hearts. I hope relaying their stories on this platform brings encouragement and puts a smile on your face. Let us step into 2025 with hearts 3 times the size we have had! Our littles are watching!
