FEEDING THE FOOTBALL TEAM

The Kingfisher Lions Club fed the football team on Thursday, October 3rd. If your son or daughter came home telling you a lady offered them an extra plate while going through the line, I confess, it was me. I thought the plates needed to be bigger when it was time to feed the kids! I come by this, honestly! My parents loved to feed whoever showed up at their door. You couldn’t get two steps in the door before my dad asked if you were hungry. We always knew when we brought someone home from college. It didn’t matter what time of day a crockpot of food would greet us. The smell would lead us to the kitchen! Being a penny pincher, I would always wait until the long-distance rates went down before calling home, which was after 6:30. This just happened to be the same time my parent’s favorite game show, “The Wheel of Fortune,” was on. If Mom answered the phone, I’d ask what are you doing? Her answer was watching the wheel, but if Daddy answered his answer to the same question, was he watching Vanna! This was the norm, so when they did not answer, I figured they had a visitor. There was one person who showed up campaigning for a county seat. She happened to show up about the time supper was on the table. She set down to beans and cornbread while discussing their political views. She won my parents over with her personal touch over their kitchen table. Back to the food Thursday evening, the pig came from Ralph’s Custom Pack in Perkins. The sides were green beans and scalloped potatoes. They had various desserts to choose from. All in all the food was great, and the opportunity to share a memory was the best. Photos by AAK Bonny Flesher.
