A rather beautiful thing happened the morning of October 11th at the Kingfisher County Emergency Management Office. Three ladies with the Sts. Peter and Paul Altar Society gifted the Kingfisher County Emergency Management Director, Ryan Deatherage, with a check for bottled water for emergency responders. The County Emergency Management Office provides all Kingfisher County firefighters and other emergency response teams with water during a job.
The women of the Altar Society have been studying the seven Corporal Works of Mercy, this month focusing on the second physical need: “give drink to the thirsty. ” They also presented the City of Kingfisher with a check for delinquent water bills or for those at risk of having their water turned off.
The Sts. Peter and Paul Altar Society has also presented checks to the Kingfisher Public School district based on the first physical need, “feed the hungry,” previously.
This group of devoted ladies only has one fundraiser a year: the infamous Catholic Turkey Dinner, which happens annually on the first Sunday in November. This year, it is set for Sunday, November 3rd, at Ross Hall. Most, if not all, the money raised at the turkey dinners each year is from the community, which makes this exchange all the more wonderful. How cool is it to see local money go to caring local citizens right back to important local agencies? There is power in the community!
