Once a month, the halls at Homestead of Kingfisher are filled with the familiar sounds of piano music and old-fashioned hymns when LaRita Sipe and Jimmy Berkenbile stop by for a special visit.
Residents gather around to listen, reminisce and enjoy the music. It usually isn’t long before several voices join Jimmy in singing some of their favorite hymns.
There’s something special about hearing an old familiar song. A melody can bring back a memory, lift someone’s spirits and, for a little while, bring an entire room together.
The monthly visits have become something residents look forward to, and Homestead is thankful to LaRita and Jimmy for volunteering their time and sharing their love of music.
It’s a simple gift, but one that brings plenty of smiles, memories and a little extra joy to the residents’ day.
