The Kingfisher Yellowjackets dominated from start to finish Friday night, September 26, shutting out the Pauls Valley Panthers 42-0 in their district opener. The win marked Kingfisher’s third straight victory, moving the Jackets to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in District 3A-1.
Kingfisher’s defense set the tone immediately, forcing a backward pass that was scooped up and returned for a touchdown before the Jacket offense even stepped on the field. From there, the rout was on.
Quarterback Jhett Birdwell was nearly perfect through the air, completing all 12 of his first-half passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the night 13 of 16 for 200 yards. The Jackets piled up 227 passing yards and added 150 more on the ground, overwhelming the Panthers on both sides of the ball.
Running back Brett Calamateo led the ground attack with 64 yards on just four carries, including a 51-yard scoring burst — Kingfisher’s longest run of the season. Through the air, Kasen Blair hauled in four catches for 66 yards, while Carter Stephenson added four receptions for 54 yards.
The Jacket defense never relented, holding Pauls Valley to just 164 total yards. The shutout was Kingfisher’s first since October 6, 2023, when they blanked Mannford 38-0.
With the win, Kingfisher strengthened its footing early in district play. Next up, the Jackets hit the road Friday, October 3, to face the Purcell Dragons.
