Jerry Eugene Powell, 80, was born April 23, 1946, in Enid to Lonnie and Betty Powell. He passed away surrounded by the love of his family.
Jerry was raised in Guthrie, where he attended school and graduated with the Class of 1964. Following graduation, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. In 1966, he was deployed to Vietnam, a service he carried with deep pride throughout his life. His patriotism and dedication to fellow veterans remained an important part of who he was.
Jerry was united in marriage to Teresa, and to this union two children were born, Jerry Powell and Tonya Cummings. He later married Dorothy on December 1, 1974, blending their families together with love and devotion.
Jerry worked hard throughout his life, spending many years in the oil fields and construction industry. In 1987, he began his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs at the VA Hospital, where he worked in maintenance and painting until his retirement in 2007. He also proudly served as Commander of the Guthrie VFW from 1986 to 1987. Jerry enjoyed a life centered around family, service, and country. He was known for his hardworking spirit, his loyalty, and the pride he carried as a veteran and patriot.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Powell, and his parents, Lonnie and Betty Powell.
He is survived by his brother, Butch Powell of Oklahoma; his sister, Connie, of Texas; his children, Jerry Powell, Jr. of OK, Tonya Cummings of Crescent, OK, Jerry Poplin of Fairfax, OK, Teresa Priest and husband John of Kingfisher, OK and Thomas Poplin of Guthrie, OK; grandchildren, Ashley Cook and husband Mike of Artesia, New Mexico, Kristin Hicks and husband Lance of Kingfisher, OK, and Casey Priest and wife Naomi of Kingfisher, OK; great-grandchildren, Madison and Ethan Cook, Haydon, Kyler, Alyvia Overturff, Jaxon, Mila, and Taylor; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will cherish his memory.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, May 22 at Lawrie Cemetery in Guthrie, OK. Under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
