Sunday, January 25th, Big 4 Volunteer Fire Department called for an agency assist on a house fire located off Highway 33 and N 2930 Road around 2 p.m. Kingfisher, Cashion, and Twin Lakes Fire Departments also assisted at the scene.
The fire destroyed the home of Pam and Louis Jones. The couple had frozen pipes and were working to thaw them when the fire started. The home, which had been in the family for decades and served as the childhood residence of their son, Drake Jones, was a total loss. Pam and Louis did not have homeowner’s insurance.
The loss comes during an already difficult period for the family, as Louis also lost his brother, Jerry, last year.
Drake and Tiffany Jones have also faced the loss of their home in recent months. Their house, where Drake’s father grew up and where his grandmother lived, was completely gutted and remodeled in 2018. The couple moved into the home after renovations were completed and lived there for more than seven years.
Last year, they discovered extensive mold beneath the home affecting the majority of the subfloors and floor joists. The damage was caused by a failed bathtub waste line with complete joint separation, which professionals estimated had been leaking for anywhere from six months to two years. Due to health hazards, the family was immediately displaced and moved into a camper in October 2025.
Insurance did not cover the damage, and after consulting with a mold remediation company, the couple decided to salvage what they could and rebuild. Demolition of the home began in October. Salvaged materials, including cabinets, light fixtures, and electrical components, will be incorporated into the new home.
Drake and Tiffany are currently living in a camper and preparing their land for rebuilding themselves while managing the financial strain of paying for the former home, the new home, and the camper.
