The Kingfisher High School and Kingfisher Junior High had their annual Veterans Day program this morning, November 11th at The Hive Gymnasium in honor of all of those who have served.
The assembly started with the HS and JH bands playing the “Guardians of Liberty March” as select Boys State Delegates presented the colors of the armed forces. All attendants then took part in the pledge of allegiance and the program began. Veterans were recognized during the Marches of the Armed Forces Medley by standing when their branch’s song was played. Girls State and Boys State Delegates then took turns sharing the lyrics of patriotic poems and songs as well as why we celebrate this holiday and how it came to be. The HS and JH Choirs then sang said poems and songs.
Matthew Mecklenburg then shared an excerpt from President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The bands then played “Gettysburg” by Brian Balmages. Myles Harrison introduced the program’s guest speaker, Lt. Colonel Matt Fleharty. Lt. Colonel shared about the climate of our country. How often times its hard for many of us to understand how lucky and fortunate we are to live in the United States of America. It was a powerful and unifying speech that left you wanting to do your part. Lt. Colonel Fleharty urged us all to Give Back, Give Grace, and Give it Our All, no matter what “it” is.
Alejandro Cueller thanked all the veterans in attendance once again for their service and sacrifice. Natalie Garrett then gave the program’s closing remarks. Two High School Band students, Angela Munoz and Lyndsi Moyeda, played taps as all stood in silence remembering those that have gone before us. The band ended with the playing of the National Anthem and Veterans and their families were free to enjoy a meal provided by the schools. Photo by AAK Maitland Pickle.
