The Kingfisher Board of Education took a moment at Monday night’s meeting to spotlight the dedication and accomplishments of the Kingfisher High School cheerleaders, a group that coaches say has pushed themselves harder than ever this year.
Speaking on behalf of the squad, Coach Carma Regan told board members she “would just love to glow on these girls” for the effort they have poured into their program since early summer. Practices began in late June or early July, and the team quickly settled into a demanding schedule that included twice-a-day workouts, often starting as early as 6:15 a.m., then returning in the evening for additional training from 7 to 9 p.m.
“Most of them are multi-sport athletes,” Regan said, “and I would love to recognize their dedication and how hard they have worked. They absolutely have surprised me. They work so tirelessly.”
This season has been especially meaningful to Regan, who returned to the program this year and now finds herself coaching and teaching many of the same girls she once babysat as a high school student.
“I have pictures of them from back when I was here,” she said with a laugh. “Watching them grow and excel, not only as athletes but now as students in my classroom, has been so fun and rewarding. To see them succeed in every way possible has meant the world to me.”
Regan added that she is proud of the progress the team has made and appreciates a short break after their long stretch of intense training.
Superintendent Andy Evans echoed the praise, applauding both the athletic and academic accomplishments of the cheerleaders.
“We are really proud of your academic achievements,” Evans said. “I am proud of your athletic achievements as well. You have really worked hard. Thank you very much.”
The board and audience responded with warm applause, recognizing a group of young women who have pushed themselves to represent Kingfisher with excellence on and off the field.
