On Tuesday, October 29th, a wildfire broke out east of Kingfisher around 3 PM. Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph helped to spread the flames. The fire quickly moved north and jumped the river, prompting officials to order the evacuation of the Twin Lakes area and advising residents to find safety as first responders worked to contain the fire. The Crescent Fire Department lost a command truck during the incident. Crews monitored the area overnight and were later joined by task forces from Alfalfa and Woods Counties. The Red Cross responded by providing meals for over 100 first responders, and as of Wednesday, they continued to maintain a staging area at Cooksey and Council. Individuals who need resources can stop by the staging area as long as they are there, or call 1-800-Red Cross. An update from Logan County Emergency Management at 5:30 AM on Wednesday reported that six structures had been destroyed.
Kingfisher County Fire Departments, Logan County Fire Departments, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Forestry, Alfalfa County Task Force, Woods County Task Force, American Red Cross, Logan County Emergency Management, and Kingfisher County Emergency Management all responded to this fire.
