Kingfisher Memorial Library has received a new grant aimed at helping some of the community’s youngest learners build the skills they need before heading to school.
The Early Literacy and School Readiness Grant was awarded by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and the Institute of Museum and Library Services through Library Services and Technology Act funds.
One of the additions made possible by the grant is a collection of Storytime Sacks that families can check out and take home. Each sack includes a storybook, puppets and interactive play materials designed to encourage children and their parents or caregivers to read, play and learn together.
The library is also adding resources for adults about children’s brain development. The books will provide parents and caregivers with information about how young children learn and ways they can encourage early learning and school readiness at home.
STORYTIME AT THE LIBRARY
Kingfisher Memorial Library is also offering two weekly storytime opportunities for families.
Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Storytime featuring books, puppets, flannel boards and active play.
Thursdays at 10 a.m.
A storytime focused specifically on early learning and school readiness.
Families are invited to stop by the library, enjoy a storytime and explore the new books, activities and Storytime Sacks available through the program.
The grant gives local families a few more tools to make learning fun at home while helping little ones get ready for their first days in the classroom.
