The Kingfisher Stingrays have officially completed their first season back in the pool after a two-year hiatus, marking a successful return for the local swim program.
The season concluded Saturday, Aug. 1, at the OKC League Championship Meet at the Young Family Athletic Center in Norman. Although the championship featured unexpected technical delays, the Stingrays rose to the challenge and finished the day with determination and pride. For many swimmers, it was their first experience competing in a championship-style meet with official starts and procedures.
Over the course of just two months, the team’s 22 swimmers practiced twice each week while competing in meets throughout the Oklahoma City Metro and Edmond League. Many athletes joined the team with little or no competitive swimming experience, making the progress they achieved throughout the season even more rewarding.
“Our swimmers showed tremendous growth in confidence, sportsmanship and their love for the sport,” the coaching staff shared.
Coaches Vanessa, Melissa and Maitland Woody expressed their appreciation to the swimmers, parents and community sponsors who helped make the program’s return possible.
“Bringing this program back has been an incredible experience, and we couldn’t have asked for a better group of kids, families and supporters,” Woody said.
The team celebrated the season with an end-of-year party on Aug. 4 and is already looking ahead to next summer.
Families interested in joining the Kingfisher Stingrays for the 2027 season are encouraged to contact the team through its Facebook page. Registration is scheduled to take place in March at K-Town Kove.
After a memorable first season back, the Stingrays are already looking forward to another summer of competition, growth and fun in 2027.
