It’s not even Halloween yet, but preparations for Christmas have already begun in Kingfisher Park. If you’ve taken a drive through there lately, you may have noticed some ladies working away amongst the trees or perhaps you saw the people dressed in green carrying bulky signs and playing on the bridge (all right, maybe they weren’t playing, but they were certainly enjoying their day at work).
These groups of amazing volunteers are only a small fraction of what it takes to make the Kingfisher Winter Nights (KWN) come to life. The women started stringing lights in the park’s 300+ redbud trees and wrapping the big tree trunks that Cimarron Electric will finish with their bucket trucks. On Tuesday, October 3rd, Devon sent a crew of workers to work a day in the park assisting with the heavy lifting.
They unloaded several of the larger light displays, like the KWN welcoming sign, the Lady Jackets basketball state championship sign, and started to install lights on the bridge. Additionally, they put metal rods into the ground in preparation for putting up candy canes around the area.
This is Devon’s second year for sending a crew to KWN. Even though that Oklahoma breeze tried to slow them down it was a very productive day.
Kingfisher Winter Nights is also holding a t-shirt design contest. The theme for this year is “Lights, Camera, CHRISTMAS.” The design must be in 1 color, and include “Kingfisher Winter Nights” or “KNW.” The deadline for this contest is November 3rd. The winning design will receive $100 and the runner-up will receive $50. Email your entry in a PNG file to info@kingfisherwinternights.com.
Kingfisher Winter Nights is always looking for volunteers to help during open hours. If you want to volunteer, please contact Terri Peck (405)368-9069.
Kingfisher Winter Nights opening day is November 25th and they will be open every day until December 25th. Week day hours are 5:30 PM-9 PM and weekends 6 PM-10 PM.
