LIGHTS, SIRENS, AND SMILES filled the air at Walmart in Kingfisher on Saturday morning, December 14th. It was the 6th annual Kingfisher’s Shop with a Cop event. Members of the Kingfisher Police force gathered at the Fairgrounds, where they were paired with 10 lucky children. At 8 am, they left for Walmart with flashing lights and blaring sirens.
Police Chief Travis Gray explained that this special Christmas program, which selects 10 deserving children, has been running for six years. Each child was given up to $1,000 to spend on gifts for themselves and their families.
Money for this event came from donations and fundraisers.
When the shopping was complete, the children and officers returned to the Fairgrounds to wrap their gifts.
Gretchen Phelps, the manager of Kingfisher Walmart, expressed her gratitude for being a part of this incredible event. She described it as her favorite event of the year, and said, “We are so grateful that we get to witness this and are proud to be able to host this wonderful event.” Photos by AAK Jack Quirk.
