For as long as it has been around, the Kingfisher miniature train has been a staple of our community. Giving rides to those, young and old, during the Fourth of July and Christmas season. Our mini train has been faithfully serving this community for the better part of 50 years (or more). As you can imagine, that’s a mighty long time. Think about all the possible wear and tear that could have on the rails, the little engine that could, the boxcars, etc. Minor repairs have been made over the years that have held up well, but nothing permanent. During the Kingfisher City Council regular meeting on Tuesday, October 15th, city council members discussed the possible action of making repairs on the existing track to make it safer and less likely to derail. The city commissioners voted unanimously to approve the $60,000 needed for American Track to make repairs. Ryan McAdams, a City of Kingfisher employee who is also an operator of the train, stated that out of the 10 to 15 different companies they looked at, American Track was the only one up for the challenge. Construction will begin as soon as possible and will conclude around Thanksgiving, just in time to kick off the lighting ceremony for the Kingfisher Winter Nights and our new Norwegian (Christmas tree) friend on November 30th at 6 pm. We’re on the right track. See you in November! By AAK Maitland Pickle.
