On Saturday, March 29th, P&K Equipment marked a major milestone—40 years of business and a recent expansion—with a ribbon cutting hosted by the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce. In a perfectly fitting touch, Chamber Director Shauna Rupp selected a John Deere green ribbon for the occasion.
The story of P&K Equipment begins right here in Kingfisher in 1985, with a man named Dr. Barry Pollard. A true son of rural Oklahoma, Barry grew up on a farm near Hennessey and has always carried a deep love for agriculture.
After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1973 and the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in 1977, Dr. Pollard opened his own neurosurgery practice in Enid in 1982. But that wasn’t enough for this multi-talented man—just a few years later, he took a leap of faith and purchased a local John Deere dealership in Kingfisher that had come up for sale.
He couldn’t have done it without his business partner Wendell Kirtley—the “K” in P&K Equipment. The company survived the tough ag economy of the 1980s, and soon expanded. When Wendell retired, Barry saw no reason to change the name—he simply adapted it to mean Pollard & Kids, keeping the P&K spirit alive while bringing the next generation into the fold.
Today, P&K Equipment independently owns and operates 32 John Deere dealerships across Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, and Illinois, serving thousands of farmers with trusted equipment and deep roots in the communities they call home.
Congratulations to Dr. Barry Pollard and the entire P&K family on 40 years of service, success, and staying true to your roots. Your investment in Kingfisher and beyond has not only grown crops—it’s grown careers, communities, and futures.
Here’s to the next 40!
To commemorate the achievement, Representative Dobrinski and Senator Jech presented Dr. Pollard with a citation signed by them and Governor Kevin Stitt, recognizing the company’s longstanding contributions to the industry and community.
