Sometimes it’s the little things that end up making a big difference.
That’s exactly what happened this year as the Kingfisher High School Student Council wrapped up their pop tab collection drive and delivered an impressive 80 pounds of tabs to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oklahoma Cityon Tuesday, May 5.
All year long, students, families, businesses, and community members saved pop tabs from soda cans and other aluminum containers, tossing them into collection containers around town. Bit by bit, those little tabs added up to something pretty special.
The tabs will be recycled, with the money helping support families staying at the Ronald McDonald House while their children receive medical care at nearby hospitals.
For a lot of folks, it may seem like a small thing. But for families spending days, weeks, or even months beside a child in the hospital, every bit of support matters.
That’s what makes projects like this so meaningful. It gives students a chance to learn how serving others can make a real impact, while also reminding everyone what a caring community looks like.
And honestly, that’s one thing small towns do best. When there’s a need, people step up.
From students collecting tabs at school to community members saving them at home and local businesses helping out along the way, this was truly a group effort from start to finish.
Eighty pounds of pop tabs may not sound glamorous, but behind every pound was kindness, generosity, and people simply wanting to help someone else. Way to go, STUCO kids and Kingfisher community. Little things still matter.
