At the Kingfisher City Council meeting on June 8, the council approved an agenda item awarding a REAP-funded contract for fire hydrant replacements and repairs across the city.
The project was awarded to Brewer Construction in Oklahoma City for $251,234, following competitive bidding from nine contractors. It will address 19 hydrants that are outdated, buried, or lacking proper valves, and includes related concrete and pavement restoration.
It was noted that potential field challenges such as unknown underground conditions and varying pipe types, which could require adjustments during construction. Work is expected to begin after July 4, with city staff coordinating water shutoffs and public notifications.
The council ultimately approved the contract and directed staff to proceed with mobilization and project coordination.
