The 2026–2027 school year is here, and that means it’s time for Kingfisher drivers to slow their roll.
Kingfisher Public Schools welcomes students back to class Thursday, August 13, bringing busy mornings and afternoons back to school zones across town. Students, parents, buses, bicycles and plenty of extra traffic will once again be part of the daily routine.
If you’ve been out and about lately, you may have already noticed the school zone speed limit signs flashing from 7–9 a.m. and 2–4 p.m. Those flashing lights are your reminder to ease off the gas and pay extra attention.
WATCH FOR STUDENTS
Speed limits aren’t the only thing drivers need to watch. Keep a close eye on crosswalks, sidewalks and intersections, especially around school buildings.
Many Kingfisher students walk or ride their bikes to and from school. Drivers should be prepared to stop and give students plenty of room to cross safely.
PUT THE PHONE AWAY
School mornings can be hectic. Maybe you’re running late for work, trying to get the kids dropped off or simply attempting to make it across town before the traffic picks up.
But saving a couple of minutes isn’t worth putting someone at risk.
Put the phone away, watch for buses and pedestrians, pay attention to those flashing school zone signs and keep your foot ready for the brake.
A little patience goes a long way when hundreds of students are making their way to and from school each day.
So as the new school year gets underway, remember: slow down, stay alert and SLOW YOUR ROLL!
