A powerful storm that moved through Kingfisher County on Friday, August 7, left behind widespread damage, bringing down trees and power poles, damaging buildings and knocking out electricity to thousands of residents.
North of Kingfisher, nearly a mile of OG&E power poles were blown down, contributing to a power outage that affected the City of Kingfisher.
Additional damage was reported near the intersection of U.S. Highway 81 and N760 Road, where several buildings were damaged and trees were blown down. More downed power poles were reported near the Cimarron River bridge south of Dover.
Kingfisher County Emergency Management also reported storm damage in the Cashion area, although the full extent of the damage was still being determined.
Cimarron Electric Cooperative reported multiple downed power poles and dispatched crews to assess the damage and begin repairs. Kingfisher Electric was also out assessing damage following the storm.
OG&E officials said crews were able to reroute power through the El Reno system, restoring electrical service to the City of Kingfisher.
Utility crews continued working throughout the county to repair damaged infrastructure and restore service. Residents were urged to stay away from downed power lines and give utility crews plenty of room to work.
