The City of Kingfisher announced on May 20th that the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) project would be taking place in downtown Kingfisher.
Construction officially began Tuesday, May 26, 2026, starting with E. Miles Avenue, which is arguably the sidewalk and roadway segment in the most need of repair.
The project includes selective sidewalk and roadway removal and replacement in downtown Kingfisher along Robberts Ave., Admire Ave., Miles Ave. (with the most work on Miles), and Main Street between 6th Street and 7th Street. Work also includes alley approach repairs and updated signage. Pioneer brick areas near the headquarters district are not affected by the project.
Improvements are intended to enhance ADA accessibility, reduce trip hazards, repair damaged pavement, and improve downtown walkability and overall appearance.
Construction is expected to take 60 to 90 days, weather permitting. ODOT is leading the project, with the City serving as the local point of contact. Traffic generally remains open, but temporary parking restrictions occur in active work zones.
Some sidewalk sections are replaced due to underlying damage or ADA accessibility requirements, even if they appear to be in good condition.
The City appreciates the public’s patience during construction. For questions, contact City Hall.
