There’s a new Sheriff in town! Meet your new Kingfisher County Sheriff, Aaron Pitts, sworn in Thursday, January 2, 2025. Aaron is a local guy, born and raised in Hennessey, and has always called Kingfisher County home. He’s a family man with a wife and three kids.
Aaron started his law enforcement career in 2016 with the Enid Police Department before moving to the Hennessey Police Department in 2017, where he worked his way up to Chief of Police. Along the way, he became a D.A.R.E. instructor and SRO for Hennessey Public Schools until he took the Chief position in February of 2020.
As the new Sheriff, Aaron is focused on being transparent, managing the budget effectively, and making the most out of the county’s resources. He’s looking at ways to cut unnecessary costs, streamline operations, and make things run smoother.
Sheriff Pitts is all about connecting with the community, especially by working closely with local schools and exploring new ways to fund services together. He has big plans for a modernized administration, policies that support staff well-being, and keeping the public informed in an open and honest way.
Along for the ride is his good friend Ed Cangiano, your new Kingfisher County Undersheriff. Ed is a retired Senior Master Sergeant from the Air Force Reserves, a retired Lieutenant from the Bethany Police Department, and the former Police Chief of the Hennessey Police Department. Prior to working as the Chief in Hennessey, Ed was the Staff Senior Master Instructor for TASER, International in Phoenix, Arizona. Ed also served as the Emergency Management Director for the Town of Hennessey.
Before resigning, Ed recommended Aaron Pitts, who was his assistant chief, as the next Police Chief for Hennessey. Ed worked closely with him for many years and said Aaron helped him a lot during his time as Chief.
After his time at Hennessey, Ed made his way back to the Bethany Police Department, where he served as a warrant officer. Shortly after, Ed accepted a position at the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office with the Civil Division, where he worked for a year and a half before retiring. Just like his several other retirements, this one didn’t stick. Ed was asked to be the Lieutenant over training at the Piedmont Police Department, that was until Aaron Pitts won the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Election on August 27th of 2024. After winning the election, Aaron called up his old friend Ed and asked him if he wanted to take part in his new adventure. In Aaron’s mind, there was no one else for the job.
When asked about how he felt about working for Aaron, Ed responded by saying, “I think the world of Aaron Pitts, and I am honored to be asked to be his undersheriff.” The two look forward to taking office and have big hopes and aspirations for the future. The dynamic duo is back.
