September 22nd is marked as the first day of fall. That is what my calendar says. I just hope Mother Nature gets the memo.
I have been getting up about five every morning to get my lawn watered. With this retirement gig, I can always take a nap later when the heat kicks in. I have noticed the air is changing, and I believe this time in the morning is the best time of the day.
This morning, I started pulling out the fall decorations in hopes it will bring on the weather changes. Fall is my favorite time of the year. It brings cooler air and everything pumpkin! You can’t beat all the tasty treats, from pie to lattes.
Besides the treats, there is also the pumpkin decorating. As for me, I stay away from carving pumpkins. Anything to do with knives is probably not in my best interest to partake in. I make up for it with my paintbrush.
After years of decorating pumpkins and then having my hard work go bad after a week or so, I have had to figure out a different way to enjoy the decorations. So, I have changed things up a bit. I grab my orange paint and go to town painting about anything I can see as a pumpkin.
My favorite is turning a flowerpot upside down, painting it orange, and then adding some Spanish moss. I have used anything from old bed springs to sticks out of my yard as a stem. You can’t go wrong adding a sunflower at the base. I have figured out this makes my pumpkins last from year to year as I add to my collection.
I was pretty excited today after priming my old saw to paint as a scarecrow. I left it outside to dry. When I returned, it had rained! Yes, I said rain!! I wasn’t even mad! I’ll get my saw blade painted for my front door.
Pumpkins go hand in hand with scarecrows, saying all things fall. I just hope Mother Nature gets on the same page with all the hints. We all know the signs of fall with school starting, football season, and the fair. I mean, how can she not know it’s fall?
Even if you don’t carve or paint pumpkins, wake up early and enjoy the cool, quiet morning. It’s the best time of the day! Our world gets so crazy, it’s okay to take a minute for ourselves just to breathe.
I wish everyone a happy fall!
