Last week I wrote about my costume bloopers. I thought dressing as a turkey would be a piece of cake. I should rethink that decision! I have to admit, putting on my turkey tutu and looking in the mirror brought on some anxiety! I did hear my voice say, “It’s for the littles, again…it’s for the littles!”
Before I got to my car, I was already missing a drumstick. Turkeys only have two! After checking in at the front desk, I had to walk the long hall since Mrs. Hagar’s room is at the very end. My anxiety did calm some as I noticed the turkey art hanging in the hall. There were giggles along the way, but that’s to be expected, I suppose. After all, my headband flip-flopped, my tutu swished, and then there were the turkey socks!
The littles were excited! We talked about what we would eat on Thanksgiving Day and, of course, read a couple of books about turkeys. One of the books was The Plump and Perky Turkey, a name I could relate to! After we finished reading, I seemed to relax a bit.
Then Mrs. Hagar told me that we were going to dance to the Turkey Hokey Pokey! I know what all of you are thinking—that I did this to myself. Fortunately, no photos were taken as the plump and perky turkey put her right leg in and shook it all about! Did I mention I do this for the littles?
We ended our time with each one saying what they were thankful for. I was thankful for the awesome teachers and their helpers, plus no pictures during the Hokey Pokey dance! The littles assured me I would be spared from the roasting pan as I went out the door.
By then I needed my Sonic beverage, and it didn’t matter if I was in costume or not. I am still missing a drumstick. I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving, and you may try the Hokey Pokey! Shake it all about!
