On Sunday, June 11th, at 12:40 PM, Abelardo Cabrera Sanchez, 51, of Enid was driving a semi-truck northbound on Highway 81 at Starlite Drive but failed to stop at the intersection. According to a police report from the Kingfisher Police Department, the truck hit a stopped truck that was driven by Tasha Tankersley, 30, of Okarche. After striking the truck, the semi veered to the right, and ran into the stop light pole, knocking it over. Kingfisher Fire, Kingfisher Police, Kingfisher County Sherriff Department, and OHP worked the scene.
Tankersley was taken to Mercy Hospital Kingfisher for evaluation, but there is no update on her condition.
Kingfisher-based AirEvac 113 medical helicopter landed on the highway and flew Cabrera Sanchez to OU Medical Center.
After an hour, the intersection was cleared and traffic could move through. With the stop light pole being completely knocked down, the intersection now contains a four-way stop sign. Due to the extent of the damage to the pole, it could take a while to get it replaced.
