Vera Kathryn McIntyre

Vera Kathryn Jones McIntyre passed away the afternoon of August 2, 2020. She was born in Covington, Oklahoma on January 15, 1924 to John Leslie Jones Sr. and Pearl (Crews) Jones. The family quickly moved to Merrick, Oklahoma in Lincoln, County, where Kathryn spent her childhood. She attended grade school there and was a member of the Merrick Christian Union church.

She attended high school in Tryon, Oklahoma where she graduated in 1942. In Tryon, she met the love of her life, Ray McIntyre, who graduated in 1940. When Ray went to war as a member of the 45th Infantry, Kathryn worked for a time for the civil service office in Fort Worth, Texas. She also taught for a year at Tryon High School.

Ray and Kathryn wrote each other all during the war. Ray was discharged in July of 1945 and they were married August 12, 1945 in the backyard of H.I. Jones, Pastor of the Tyron Christian Union Church. Katy and Ray attended Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma both graduating in 1947. Ray then attended medical school at the University of Oklahoma while Kathryn worked to help put him through school. After Ray graduated from Medical School in 1951, they moved to Kingfisher, Oklahoma where Ray practiced medicine. Kathryn then took care of their three sons, Glen, Dale and Floyd, soon to be joined by a daughter, Ann. 

Kathryn was active in the Cub Scouts. She served on the board of the Federated Church as well as the board of the Kingfisher Memorial Library. She was very active in Altrua and bridge clubs, but the love of her life, next to family was her painting. She was known for her warmth and sparkling wit. She attended art classes first at Central State University, then under the artist, Dick Goetz. For a time, she had an art studio downtown, with Mrs. Wright and several others. She presented paintings at art shows throughout central Oklahoma and at the Kingfisher County Fair, winning several awards.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Ray McIntyre, MD of Kingfisher, her son, Glen of Kingfisher, her son Dale of Bartlesville and his wife Laura and their daughter, Katy. Her son Floyd, who is a doctor and and lives in West Harwich, Massachusetts. Floyd’s wife, Carolyn, taught art for a time at Kingfisher. Floyd has two children, Joyce Santuossosso of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts who is also a doctor. Joyce and her husband, Frank have one son, Francis William. Floyd Jr., is married to Valerie, and they have two children, Josephine and Floyd McIntyre III. Her daughter Ann is a retired pharmacist and lives in Sonoma, California. She is also survived by one brother, Paul Jones, of Lebanon, Oregon and two half-sisters, Sharon Massion of Scottsdale, Arizona and Nita Kellerman of Avon, Indiana. 

The family is thankful that Kathryn is now at rest in Heaven.

A graveside service will be held at Kingfisher Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 under the direction of Sanders Funeral Service.
