Kingfisher Public Schools kicked off the new school year on Wednesday, Aug. 5, with its annual Meet the Jackets celebration and the inaugural Media Day, giving the community an exciting preview of the 2026-27 athletic season.
Earlier in the day, student-athletes gathered for Media Day, where team photos, individual button photos and the senior class photo were taken for the new Kingfisher All Sports Booster Association program, which will be available at athletic events throughout the year.
The evening began with introductions of every junior high and high school athletic team (including photography and band), allowing families and fans to recognize the student-athletes before the fall season gets underway.
The annual class dodgeball tournament once again served as the evening’s main attraction, with each high school class competing on the football field using water dodgeballs. Spectators joined in the fun by purchasing water shooters to spray players during the games, while eliminated participants could pay $1 to re-enter the tournament.
Families also enjoyed a variety of activities, including a bouncy house, helmet rides, and concessions. Another popular attraction was the dunk tank, where Coach Steven Wilson volunteered to take the plunge as attendees lined up for the chance to send him into the water.
The event also gave fans the opportunity to purchase All-Sports Passes for the upcoming school year.
More than just a celebration, Meet the Jackets serves as an important fundraiser for the Kingfisher All-Sports Booster Association. Proceeds from concessions, All-Sports Passes, helmet rides, dunk tank throws, dodgeball re-entry fees, and other activities help provide support for Kingfisher student-athletes throughout the year.
With strong community support and plenty of Yellowjacket spirit on display, the annual event once again provided a memorable start to another school year and athletic season.
