A Kingfisher Girl Scout is helping first responders offer comfort to children during difficult moments.
Aliyah Sinclair, a Girl Scout Cadette with Kingfisher Troop 424, recently completed her Girl Scout Silver Award project, “Smiles on Patrol.” She assembled totes filled with toys and other comfort items for local law enforcement officers and emergency personnel to keep in their vehicles and at their stations.
Aliyah recognized that children may be present when police officers, sheriff’s deputies, firefighters and other emergency personnel respond to an incident. A stuffed animal or small toy can offer reassurance, provide a distraction or give a child something comforting to hold.
Several community partners helped support the project, including First United Methodist Church, Church of the Nazarene, Frontline Ministries, His House, Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Bailey the Comfort Dog.
The Silver Award challenges Girl Scout Cadettes to identify a community need and take action to make a lasting difference. Through “Smiles on Patrol,” Aliyah found a practical way to help children while giving first responders another resource to use when comfort is needed.
Congratulations to Aliyah on completing her project and helping care for children throughout the Kingfisher community.
