The Kingfisher County Commissioners formally accepted a grant Tuesday at their regular meeting that will help offset the cost of purchasing bulletproof vests for deputies with the Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Department.
The funding comes through the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program, a federal program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice. The program reimburses eligible law enforcement agencies for up to 50 percent of the cost of approved body armor purchases.
Commissioners noted that the grant had already been approved, and the action taken at the meeting was the formal acceptance of the award.
Under the program, the county purchases the vests and then receives reimbursement for half of the cost, helping ensure deputies have access to modern protective equipment while reducing the financial burden on local taxpayers.
