A movie with a powerful connection to the history of the 89er Theatre is returning to the big screen in Kingfisher.
The Passion of the Christ will begin showing at the 89er Theatre on Friday, September 11, with showtimes to be announced.
The showing carries special significance for the theatre and the Kingfisher community.
In March 2004, The Passion of the Christ was playing at the original 89er Theatre on the night the historic downtown movie house was destroyed by fire.
Now, more than 22 years later, the film is returning to the 89er screen.
In preparation for the showing, community members were invited to gather at the theatre Tuesday evening, September 8, for a special time of prayer.
Those attending prayed over the theatre and for those who will come to see the film, with the hope that moviegoers will leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the message behind the story.
For longtime Kingfisher residents who remember the 2004 fire, the return of The Passion of the Christ brings together a significant piece of the theatre’s past with the community gathering there today.
The Passion of the Christ begins Friday, September 11, at the 89er Theatre in Kingfisher.
Showtimes will be announced soon.
